Product Care

Product Care

Caring for your handmade wooden items will ensure they stand up to the test of time.
Unless otherwise specified in the item’s description a damp cloth may be used for cleaning, although please be aware that finished timber doesn’t want to stay damp or submerged in water for long so ensure the piece is dried after cleaning.

Bowls require only a gentle, warm water handwash.
They are not intended for use in a microwave or dishwasher.

Certain ornamental items may not have a food-safe finish applied to them, this will be specified in the items description.
All other creations have been finished using either a food-safe mineral oil and beeswax mix or a friction polish that’s food-safe once cured.

If you require additional Ink refills they are available for purchase here in the store.
To ensure you’re purchasing the correct refill and for assembly instructions please consult my guides below for the various different pen kits.

Ink replacement

Ink and lead replacements

All of the pens I sell have replaceable ink refills and once you’ve managed to write your way to the end of the first one you may be wondering how to swap a new refill in.

This is a different process for each of the pen kits I sell, please find the guide matching your pen and note the refill type required.

Slimline Pens

A very simple pen to disassemble for cleaning or refilling.
Takes a Cross style refill.
Simply pull the two halves of the pen apart, unscrew the old ink cartridge, and replace with a new one before lining up the timber grain and pressing the pen back together.

The Sierra Pencil follows the same method, although you’ll need to unscrew the tip to remove the mechanism.

Cigar Pens and Pencils

Both the Cigar pen’s ink and the pencil’s lead can be replaced in the same way.
The pen takes a Parker style refill, while the pencil takes 0.2-0.9mm lead.

For the pen, unscrew the tip and remove the ink (taking care not to misplace the spring or black band), insert the replacement and rotate until it sits in properly, then add the spring and band before screwing the tip back on.
For the pencil, unscrew the tip from the front half of the pen and remove both pieces, then insert the lead and twist to retract it before re-assembling the pencil.9

JR Gent Fountain and Rollerball Pens

The Jr Gent rollerball pen will take a standard rollerball replacement, and the Fountain pen takes either cartridge replacements or bottled ink via an ink converter.

To replace, unscrew the cap and tip or nib to remove the old cartridge and swap in a new one.

Ink cartidges need to be pressed firmly into the back of the nib until the seal is broken and the ink is able to flow.
